San Beda Comes Back For The Palarong Med Swimming at Ateneo de Manila

The swimming competition of Palarong Medisina 2019 started eight in the morning of February 17, 2019, at Ateneo Loyola Swimming Pool of Ateneo de Manila University with swimmers represented from various medical schools in Luzon. The swimming competition had 3 categories per swimming and two breaks of 15 minutes in between.

The first category swimming sets were 200 m medley relay for men and women, 200 m freestyle for men and women, followed by 50 m butterfly for men and women and lastly, 4×50 m mixed medley relay. The Bedan swimmers who participated in the first set of events is Carlo de Leon from year level 2 for 50 m fly men and Jaenara Bitao from year level 1 section A for 50 m fly women.

As for the second category: the sets were 50 m breaststroke men and women, 100 m freestyle men and women and 4×50 m freestyle relay for men and women. The Bedan swimmers who participated in the events were Vielson Urriza of year level 1 – section B for 50 m breaststroke men and Anya Arceo from year level 3 for 50 m breaststroke women.

Finally, after the second 15-minute break was category three, the events were 100 m individual medley for men and women, followed by 50 m backstroke for men and women and 50 m freestyle for men and women and 4×50 m mixed freestyle. The Bedan Swimmers who participated in the last set of events is Carlo de Leon of year level 2 for 50 m freestyle men and Jaenara Bitao from year level 1 section A for 100 m individual medley women, 50 m backstroke women and 50 m freestyle women.

The swimming captain of San Beda is Carlo de Leon for men and Anya Arceo for women. Carlo de Leon said, “First of all its good to be back kasi nagskip tayo ng APMC last year, pero it was fun and mas okay para sakin yung APMC this year. Tough opponents pero kaya natin pumalag, kulang lang din talaga sa practice and players. Hopefully next year magawan ng paraan both, masaya nako kahit isa samin magkamedal bago ako gumaduate” upon interviewing him about the palarong med swimming competition. The Bedan swimmers were thankful for the experience despite the team not having bagged any medals from the said competition. They were also grateful for the managers of the team who gave them drinks and food to eat in between breaks and swimming sets.

Medweek 2018: San Beda Med Swimming

The competition started nine in the morning of September 30, 2018, at San Beda University Pool, with swimmers represented for each year level: first year section A, first year section B, 2nd year and 3rd year. There were four events for 25 meters swim in each men and women category: namely Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle; and one event for relay medley.

The winners for 25 meters Butterfly Men are the following: 1st place, Mackie Tolosa from third year having an official time of 16:24 seconds; 2nd place, Carlo de Leon from second year having 16:31 seconds; and 3rd place, from first year B, Raf Torralba with 22 seconds. In addition, the winners for 25 meters Butterfly Women are the following: 1st place, Jaea Bitao of first year A, having an official time of 29:65 seconds; 2nd place, KC Tan of second year, having 35:11 seconds; and 3rd place, Nicole Lim from third year having 46:55 seconds.

As for the 25 meters Breaststroke Men category, the winners are: 1st place, Vielson Uriza of first year B having an official time of 23:28 seconds; 2nd place, Jericho Ronquillo from second year with 30:13 seconds; and 3rd place, Jandel Adriano from third year having 34:41 seconds. On the other hand, the winners for 25 meters Breaststroke Women are the following: 1st place, Anya Arceo from third year with 30:01 seconds; 2nd place, Lara Acuba from second year with 33:66 seconds; and 3rd place, Jaea Bitao from first year A with 34:3 seconds.

The winners for the 25 meters Backstroke Men are the following: 1st place, Justin Ramos from first year B having 23:92 seconds; 2nd place, Paolo Bitao from third year having 26:44 seconds; and 3rd place, Pat Dionisio from second year with 26:84 seconds. Meanwhile, the winners for 25 meters Backstroke Women are the following: 1st place, Jaea Bitao from first year A with 26:38 seconds; 2nd place, Lara Acuba from second year with 30:35 seconds; and 3rd place, Erika Serrano of first year B with 32:52 seconds.

Moreover, the winners for 25 meters Freestyle Men are the following: 1st place, Mackie Tolosa of third year with 15:65 seconds; 2nd place, Michael Virata from second year with 21:94 seconds; and the 3rd place is Vielson Uriza from first year B with 22:17 seconds. Also, the swimmers who won for 25 meters Freestyle Women category are: 1st place, Jaea Bitao from first year A with 25:04 seconds; 2nd place, Bea Go from second year with 26:85 seconds; and 3rd place is Nicole Lim from third year with 30:14 seconds.

Finally, the winners for relay medley are the following: 1st place, the second years with a time of 1:28:84; 2nd place, the third years with a time of 1:42:44; and for the 3rd place, the first years section B with a time of 1:46:75.
